Where history and elegance converge for timeless charm
What a fabulous opportunity! What a fun project!
We were asked to work on an incredible apartment in one of New York City’s iconic new towers.
Our design, obviously, had to “hold its own” with the magnificent view. Wow, think about competing with Mother Nature as well as with one of the world’s most renowned skylines!
Our immediate instinct was to complement the beautiful vista and to bring those sky and city elements into our design. Colors selected for the upholstery were the creams and whites as found in the clouds. A custom bronze cocktail table with blue etching was created by Los Angeles artist, Yuri Gevorgian, to mirror the beautiful blue sky.
To further enhance the gorgeous sky, Bruce Marsh, one of our coveted Florida artists, was commissioned to paint his version of sky and water to be placed over the sofa in the Living Room. To pull in the natural blues, greens and browns of the landscape in Central Park, a painting by Yvonne Thomas, one of the 20th Century’s premier Abstract Expressionist artists, was selected to hang in the Dining Room.
Comfort and serenity were two of the guiding principles in our design, especially with regard to color. Soft neutrals were used in the Master Bedroom so as not to compete with the view, and also for a calming effect. Beautiful aquas and celadon greens kept the Guest Bedroom quiet and elegant. Again, in the Study, neutral fabrics and leathers were used so as to emphasize the view, as well as to highlight the exceptional Stephan Pace and Stanley Boxer paintings.
Artwork throughout was selected with an emphasis on Abstract Expressionism with artists such as Thomas, Pace, Boxer and Syd Solomon. A sculpture by Louise Nevelson adds a special accent. Oversize, signed prints by both Roy Lictenstein and James Rosenquist add a fun and unanticipated appeal. Luxury, elegance, simplicity and comfort were key elements for this very special project.
